Hello, Shalom, and Salaam:
Thank you for your interest in interning for the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies.
The Arava Institute is home to cutting-edge research in a number of interrelated fields of environmental concern in a trans-boundary context. Gathering leading regional and international experts who collaborate with its scientists, the Arava Institute is the premier institution for multidisciplinary environmental research in the Middle East.
Here at the Arava Institute, we believe that nature knows no borders and that the work we do in cooperation with our regional neighbors offers a tool toward both improving the environment and building peace. We do not discuss peace for its own sake; our kind of peace-building is a reality that arises from the respectful and close relationships we build between students and between researchers in the field by working together closely on the regional issues that matter most to us.
We have extensive experience hosting interns and have always found a way to accommodate their specific interests while allowing them to contribute to the Institute. An internship at the Arava Institute is an opportunity to contribute substantively to a unique educational and research institute while gaining valuable work experience and expert supervision. Interns develop skills in environmental research and development, environmental policy, or non-profit management, gain important professional contacts, and become part of a global network of accomplished AIES alumni.
Interns have the opportunity to work on a defined project while learning more about the area of specialization of their supervisor and department and about the complexities of trans-boundary research, education, and management in general.
By living and learning with others interns and students from the Middle East and abroad, interns form friendships and develop skills that will enable them to lead the region in solving environmental challenges through partnership and mutual understanding.
With warm regards,
Arava Institute for Environmental Studies
