JNFuture, a coalition of young environmentalists, will launch its breakthrough event, “See the Desert Bloom: JNF Future in the Garden of Eden” on Oct. 25 at a dance club in the heart of Manhattan.
You’ll mingle with trendy young New Yorkers with a love for Israel and a flair for going green. There will be an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and plenty of dancing. Each guest will have a tree planted in his or her name upon ticket purchase.
Proceeds will help fund JNF’s Blueprint Negev, a green development project in the desert, which is currently building 25 new communities, as well as reservoirs and a migratory bird reserve. It’s also endowing the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, the premier environmental academic institution in the Middle East.
Israel, incidentally, is the only country on earth that ended the 20th Century with more trees that it started with.
Ben Jablonski, founder of JNFuture, is a 24-year-old investment banker from Australia whose aim was to assemble a dynamic group of young New Yorkers from around the world who share a vision to make Israel even greener than it already is.
“We’ve got young Jews coming to this event that hail originally from Montevideo, Melbourne, Pittsburgh and Addis Ababa,” Jablonsky said. “What unites them is a love for Israel, commitment to the environment, and the desire to have a blast.”
The fun starts at 8 p.m. at HOME, 532 West 27th Street.
The Jewish National Fund is a non-profit organization founded in 1901 to buy and cultivate land in Israel. For more information on “See the Desert Bloom” contact Gabrielle Carlin at (212) 879-9305, ext 506 or e-mail her at gcarlin@jnf.org.
