Topics of Study
Studies take place both in the classroom and in the field, and include trips to the Dead Sea and Jerusalem, Eilat, and possibly Aqaba (Jordan).
The course is divided into two main sections:
Natural History of the Desert
will include topics such as geomorphology and hydrology; and ecology, biodiversity and ornithology of the Arava Desert and Gulf of Aqaba.Development Challenges in a Desert Environment
will include topics such as human settlement in the Arava, sustainable development in arid environments, water management in the Middle East, sustainable agriculture, issues of society and environment, desertification and environmental justice.Shorter sessions on related topics such as religion and the environment, politics of nature conservation, and environmental art in the desert will be included.
