The aim of this course is to introduce to the students the economic problems associated with environmental issues and to learn how to analyze and solve them.Topics
- Introduction to environmental economics, welfare analysis and market failures (externalities, Common Property Resources and Public goods).
- The theory of valuation – Morbidity and mortality, Hedonic prices, the Travel Cost model, the Contingent Valuation model.
- Cost benefits Analysis: Methodologies, dilemmas and analysis over time.
- Environmental policy analysis – Standards, taxes, tradable permits.
- Case studies – Regional and global water problems.
