Description

The aim of this course is to introduce to the students the economic problems associated with environmental issues and to learn how to analyze and solve them.

Topics
  1. Introduction to environmental economics, welfare analysis and market failures (externalities, Common Property Resources and Public goods).
  2. The theory of valuation – Morbidity and mortality, Hedonic prices, the Travel Cost model, the Contingent Valuation model.
  3. Cost benefits Analysis: Methodologies, dilemmas and analysis over time.
  4. Environmental policy analysis – Standards, taxes, tradable permits.
  5. Case studies – Regional and global water problems.
