The Slifka Israeli Coexistence Scholarship Program of Brandeis University provides two scholarships to qualified Israeli citizens, one Israeli and one Arab.

SLIFKA ISRAELI COEXISTENCE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Brandeis University will offer scholarships to two bachelor’s degree candidates who have demonstrated commitment to coexistence efforts in Israel and who are passionate about continuing their coexistence involvement in a university community. One Arab Israeli student and one Jewish Israeli student will be selected for Fall 2008 entry.

The Sylvia and Joseph Slifka Scholarships provide financial support to cover the cost of tuition, fees, room and board, and travel expenses for four years of bachelor’s degree studies. Scholars are expected to take an active role in contributing to coexistence at Brandeis; the program offers mentorship and resources to support these efforts. The cost of personal expenses and books will be the obligation of the student.

Qualifications and Application Process:

Candidates must be Israeli citizens who are now completing or have completed Bagrut studies or the equivalent in another educational system.

English proficiency must be demonstrated by TOEFL, SAT or strength in the Bagrut English assessment.

Successful candidates will have extensive involvement in Arab and Jewish coexistence programs in Israel and must show commitment to contributing to coexistence at Brandeis.

The Brandeis Application for Admission and the International Student Application for Financial Aid must be submitted to Brandeis by January 15, 2008. The credentials to complete the application must be on file by February 22, 2008. Interviews will in conducted in Israel by a panel organized through The Abraham Fund Initiatives, G.G. Communications Center, Harey Yehuda, in March 2008.
