The Hadassah Medicinal Herb Project
Cultivation and domestication of medicinal herbs is being done in the experimental orchard in cooperation with Dr. Sarah Sallon of the Natural Medicine Research Unit of Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem. The plantings and experiments are part of three programs for the advancement of knowledge in the fields of natural medicine, conservation of wild plants and domestication of medicinal species. The following program has been completed.
Project Padma: Seventeen medicinal plants used in the production of Tibetan phyto-medicines are grown at Kibbutz Ketura. Two of the medicines have been proved effective by clinical trails and are being sold by the Swiss company PADMA ag.( the name Padma means "lotus").
