Experimental Orchard
The experimental orchard is home to over 250 different varieties of fruit trees and cacti. Since 1974, Dr. Elaine Solowey, a founding member of Kibbutz Ketura, has been experimenting with desert agriculture. Ketura's experimental orchard is home to dozens of species of fruit-bearing trees, from the familiar to the exotic. Created and maintained almost single-handedly by Dr. Elaine Solowey (a member of Ketura), the experimental orchard is supported by research grants. This orchard combines scientific research with its search for applied profitable farming for farmers in arid climates.
